Dorothy Day – An Idealist in a Non-Ideal World

DOROTHY.DAY

During his recent speech to Congress, Pope Francis highlighted Dorothy Day, saying, “In these times when social concerns are so important, I cannot fail to mention the Servant of God Dorothy Day, who founded the Catholic Worker Movement,” He continued, “Her social activism, her passion for justice and for the cause of the oppressed, were inspired by the Gospel, her faith, and the example of the saints.” Read the rest…

St. Gianna Beretta Molla’s Legacy

st.gianna.mollaIt was a tremendous blessing for me to have the opportunity to meet Dr. Gianna Emmanuela Molla, the daughter of St Gianna Beretta Molla at this week’s World Meeting of Families. She was there representing the St. Gianna Physician’s Guild, whose mission is to unite and encourage Catholic physicians, and those in the health care profession, to promote and defend Catholic principles in a public way by word and example, and to inspire sanctification in their lives.  Her inner beauty and humility radiates through her as she carries on the  legacy of her mother, who was herself a Catholic physician. Dear Friends,

It’s been a blessing and honor to be here at the World Meeting of Families, guest hosting the event with EWTN Bookmark’s Host, Doug Keck.  I wanted to share a few pictures and highlights with our Women of Grace family and friends so that you could get a sense of all that is happening here.  Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to pray for you.

I will add updates to this page as I am able.  God bless you!

An Unwavering Yes

6_3_lwanga4Recently, we celebrated the Feast of St. Charles Lwanga and twenty one Ugandan martyrs.  Charles and his young companions converted to Christianity from paganism.  Sentenced to death under king Mwanga, who felt threatened because they would not bow to him, make sacrifices to his pagan gods or succumb to his sexual advances, they exhibited the kind of courage, strength, and fortitude necessary to be witnesses for Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in a moment when great sin abounded. This year’s Women of Grace® Retreat, which will be held from July 17-19 on the historic 120-acre campus of Orchard Lake Schools in Orchard Lake, Michigan, is the ideal setting for an encounter with the Architect of your life.

Entitled, “My Grace is Sufficient for You: Woman and God’s Divine Plan,” this retreat will feature Johnnette Benkovic, Fr. Philip Scott, FJ and Dr. Monica Miller in an intensive three-day immersion in what it means to be a daughter of God, and how to live out that call in this our day and time. These restful grounds, which were so dear to the heart of St. John Paul II, are the perfect place to escape the world and acquire the spiritual and emotional nourishment you need in order to empower you to engage in the unique cultural battles of our time.

“The Women of Grace Retreat always awakens what has been hiding inside of me,” says Mary Dillenback of Fishers Landing, New York. “I leave with renewed courage and joy – grateful to know I am a daughter of the Most High God and that much closer to who God needs me to be!” The retreat will be preceded by the Benedicta Leadership Institute for Women on July 16 – 17.  Johnnette and Dr. Miller will discuss, “The Authority of Woman: Her Influence, Effect, and Power.”

Dear Friends,

We are forwarding this request that was shared with us by a faithful friend. Please join us in praying.

“Imagine what might happen if every Catholic in the world would pray a Rosary on the same day! We have an example in October of 1573, when Europe was saved from the invasion of the mighty Turkish fleet, by the praying of the Rosary by all Christians! Read the rest…

Urgent Prayer Request: Kidnapped in Syria

Dear Friends,

We are sharing the urgent prayer request below from EWTN’s Facebook page:

Urgent prayer request from Sister Monica, Daughter of Charity in Paris: “Members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Syria were kidnapped, along with their wives and children. The children were isolated and put into cages. Adults who do not deny their faith will be decapitated, and their children burned alive in the cages. Let us remain fervently united in prayer, and have as our intention the welfare of all brothers and sisters in our Christian faith who are being held hostage. Mother Mary, please console them, and protect them all from harm! O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” EWTN Prayer Warriors, please share this with everyone you know. Read the rest…

Spiritual Motherhood Abounds at St. Rita’s!

St. Rita Catholic Church Lenten Women of Grace Commencement

St. Rita Catholic Church Lenten Women of Grace Commencement

On the evening of February 9, 2015, St. Rita Catholic Church in Alexandria, Louisiana gathered 110 women who have committed to the journey of a Lenten Women of Grace® study program. These women are inspired by the life of St. Rita, a woman who well interpreted the “feminine genius” espoused in the study, by living it intensely in day-to-day life and particularly in her gift of spiritual motherhood. The Women of Grace study program is their path to a deeper understanding of their God-given, unique feminine gifts, and the discovery of their particular role in bringing Jesus Christ to the world.
