Thanks to a combination of irresponsible reporting and the vague language contained in the first document released by the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops, the Vatican was forced to issue a statement yesterday reminding the public that this is just a “working document” and reflects no doctrinal changes in Church teaching.
Cardinal Burke Calls Upon Pope to Clarify Synod Reports
Cardinal Raymond Burke, prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, is expressing concern about several aspects of the Synod, including the push for changes in the handling of Communion for divorced and remarried Catholics as well as the way that information about the Synod is being “manipulated”.
Synod Fathers Enter Critical Second Phase
The Synod of Bishops entered its critical second phase on Friday when the bishops formed into small groups to arrive at decisions about what should be in included in a document known as the “relatio” which will be the basis of discussion at the Ordinary Synod on the Family to be convene in October, 2015.
