The Troubled History of “Renew” in American Parishes

DS writes: ” Several years ago in Shreveport, Louisiana, a traveling Jesuit came to our parish with these 2 [Renew] programs, filling heads with a lot of nonsense, which some believed. Sorry to say, I was one of them. Could you speak to the Renew program?”

The Redwall Series Is Magic-Free Fantasy

ER writes: “I checked the New Age blog to see if you have any insight into the Redwall series.  It is written by Brian Jacques and takes place during a middle ages-type era involving Abbey mice and other woodland creatures.  The ‘bad’ guys are mostly rats.  It is an older series, published in 1986.  Are there any concerns with this type of fantasy series?”

Are you concerned about the influence of occult fiction on today’s youth? Watch EWTN’s Women of Grace next week!

We get so much mail from parents and educators who are concerned about the impact of occult fiction on the minds of our youth, that Johnnette decided to devote a week’s worth of shows to this subject. These shows will air next week, April 11-15. I will appear on several of the shows along with renowned writer, Michael O’Brien.

This is a great series, especially for parents, because it takes a comprehensive look at this troubling trend and gives viewers an idea of what to watch out for when choosing good titles for themselves or their loved ones. We delve deeply into this subject, exposing the occult in all kinds of literature, movies, and even games. In addition, Michael does a masterful job of explaining why this dark literature is so dangerous to the minds and morals of our children. He also explains the difference between Christian fantasy such as J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia and books like the Harry Potter series.

A whole show with Michael is devoted to discussing Harry Potter, and I discuss the dangers of Twilight with Johnnette and Fr. Ed on another episode.

This is a must-see week of shows!

Women of Grace airs at 11:00 a.m. EST and encore at 11:30 p.m. EST.

Beware of Heretical New Book: “Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived”

It’s a catchy title that is sure to make it fly off the shelves, but Christians beware! Author Rob Bell,  pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan and a leader in the equally heretical Emerging Church movement, has filled this book with a false doctrine known as universalism which teaches that everyone goes to heaven because there’s no such thing as hell.

Examining the Controversy Surrounding “Resting in the Spirit”

MN asks: “I recently attended a Healing Mass where we were told that ‘because of the Holy Spirit,’ some of us might fall over while being prayed over, but that there would be a ‘catcher’ behind us to make sure we didn’t get hurt.  This did indeed happen. People ‘went over’ and were gently laid on the floor until they ‘woke up.’ The priest explained that this does not happen to everyone and if it doesn’t happen we are no less filled with the Spirit. Later, I researched the idea of resting in the Spirit on the internet and found differing opinions on this phenomenon. Could you blog about this?”
