When asked about the amendment that stripped abortion out of the House health care reform bill in a recent interview, President Obama said more work needs to be done with such an amendment to be sure it doesn’t change the “status quo” on abortion, a comment some are calling “phony.”

Pro-Abortion Lawmaker Threatens Church’s Tax Exempt Status

In retaliation for their successful involvement in lobbying for the passage of an amendment prohibiting the use of federal monies for abortion in health care reform, a pro-abortion lawmaker is calling for an investigation of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to determine if they violated the terms of their tax exempt status.

Providence Bishop Continues Confrontation with Pro-Abortion Kennedy

In response to a statement by Rep. Patrick Kennedy that his support for abortion does not make him “less of a Catholic,” the Bishop of Providence, Rhode Island is using the latest salvo as a teachable moment by pointing out why the dissenting Kennedy is in a “flawed” communion with the Church.

Religious Freedom Threatened by DC Same-Sex Marriage Law, Archdiocese Says

The Archdiocese of Washington says that a D.C. City Council decision to narrow the religious freedom exemption in a bill recognizing same-sex marriage will leave religious organizations and individuals at risk of lawsuits and could endanger Catholic social services.

Fort Hood Shooter Has Ties to Al Qaeda and Homeland Security

Investigations into the background of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the alleged shooter in last week’s massacre at Fort Hood, have revealed that he worshiped at the same mosque as two of the Sept. 11 hijackers, and yet his name also appears on a list of homeland security advisors to President Obama’s transition team.
