Let me know you and love you

April 21, 2020

St. Anselm, Bishop and Doctor (1033-1109)

“O God, let me know you and love you so that I may find my joy in you; and if I cannot do so fully in this life, let me at least make some progress every day, until at last that knowledge, love and joy come to me in all their plentitude.”

-A prayer of St. Anselm

Today’s Reflection

Today I will look “at least [to] make some progress” to find all my joy in God, Who gave me life.

St. Anselm, pray for me.

Ceasing to struggle

April 20, 2020

“Ceasing to struggle because of our defects when there is opposition to a serious mistake can lead us to that form of pride called pusillanimity, lack of courage and strength to bear misfortune or undertake large enterprises.”

-Francis Fernandez, In Conversation with God, Volume 2

Today’s Reflection

Am I being tempted in this way today? Regarding what? How can I overcome this temptation?

Speak without wounding

April 18, 2020
“If you know how to speak without wounding, although you may have to correct or reprimand, hearts will not close themselves to you. The seed will fall on truly fertile ground and the harvest will be plentiful.”
-Fr. Salvatore Canals, Jesus as Friend
Today’s Reflection
This word is meant just for me today. What strategy can I employ to heed its advice?

God does not lose battles

April 16, 2020
“Faith: avoid defeatism and sterile lamenting about the religious situation of your countries, and get on with the job with effort and move … many people. Hope: God does not lose battles.”
-St. Josemaria Escriva, paraphrase reported in In Conversation with God, Volume 2, by Francis Fernandez
Today’s Reflection
According to St. Josemaria, how can I exhibit faith and hope about the religious situation of my country?

Worshipping at the Temple of Gaia

CP asks: “I have an acquaintance who is a member of something known as ‘The Temple of Gaia,’ in Seattle. She has been quite closed-mouthed about this organization; yet, on weekends, she attends services there while her husband attends Christian services. This seems odd to me and I do not trust whatever this is. It seems centered on women’s spirituality and green energy. The woman in question is a former Mormon and is hostile to that faith. Do you have a perspective on this?”

Rest for those who work

April 15, 2020
“Our Lady is rest for those who work, consolation for those who weep, medicine for the sick, a harbor for those assailed by tempests, pardon for sinners, sweet relief for the sad, succor for those who implore.”
-St. John Damascene, Homily on Our Lady’s Dormition
Today’s Reflection
Who is the Blessed Mother to me today? How am I experiencing her maternal love?
