Pray as though

September 17

“Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended
on you.”

-St. Augustine

Today’s Reflection:

Discerning when God is calling you to rest and wait, and when He is calling you to actively do something, is very important. He gives us the tools needed to live out our lives according to His will and purpose; He is also actively involved in every single thing we do. So ask Him to guide you, and then take the steps He calls you to!

Renew the face of the earth

September 16

“This is a serious warning cry: Surrender without reservation to the Lord who has called us. This is required of us so that the face of
the earth may be renewed.”

-St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross

Today’s Reflection:

Our Lord continues to call us deeper in a relationship with Him. How is He asking you to trust Him with greater surrender at this time? What does He want you to surrender?

Is Gestalt Therapy Okay for Christians?

BA writes: “A friend of mine is training to be a gestalt therapist. Can you clarify if this is new age and if so, why?”

Gestalt therapy is a form of humanistic therapy which is a “mental health approach that emphasizes the importance of being your true self in order to lead the most fulfilling life.” Because the New Age is totally “self” centered, some of the practices used in this therapy, such as dream work, can be associated with New Age philosophies which may be introduced by practitioners. -St. Thomas Aquinas

Preserve peace of heart

September 13

“But above all preserve peace of heart. This is more valuable than any treasure. In order to preserve it there is nothing more useful than renouncing your own will and substituting for it the will of the divine heart. In this way his will can carry out for us whatever contributes to his glory, and we will be happy to be his subjects and to trust entirely in him.”

-St Margaret Mary Alacoque

Today’s Reflection:

What do you hold onto in your life that is simply a desire of your own will? What in your life isn’t of God, something that isn’t God’s will? How can you trust Him more today with His will and relinquish your own?

The fruits of charity

September 12

“The fruits of charity are joy, peace, and mercy; charity demands beneficence and fraternal correction; it is benevolence; it fosters reciprocity and remains disinterested and generous; it is friendship and communion: Love is itself the fulfillment of all our works. There is the goal; that is why we run: we run toward it, and once we reach it, in it we shall find rest.”

-St. Augustine

Today’s Reflection:

Run! Run to Jesus! He, our true Love, is the fulfillment of everything in this world. How is He calling you deeper into friendship with Him at this very minute?

Obtains, retains and regains grace

September 11

“For I have learnt for a fact that nothing so effectively obtains, retains and regains grace, as that we should always be found not high-minded before God, but filled with holy fear.”

-St. Bernard

Today’s Reflection:

Falling at the feet of Our Lord is so important, as humility is so necessary in our lives. We are to be filled with this most beautiful holy fear of God, rather than an arrogance in our own prestige. Nothing we do is completed on our own. Let’s remember this as we progress in this spiritual journey–all change must flow from our Father’s mercy and grace!
