A February 15 publication of the Catholic Health Association’s Catholic World Health carried an article from Sr. Carol Keehan expressing profound disappointment upon learning that the definition of a religious employer was not broadened to include her hospitals.
Unfortunately, we have learned that this letter was written prior to the announcement of President Obama’s “accommodation.” Apparently, the print version of the CHA publication “didn’t get the memo” that Sr. Keehan had changed her mind and was now backing the mandate.

Dear Sister Carol, I am so disappointed in your support of the HHS mandate. Please, I urge you, consider where this will go. If we are forced to provide abortion, contraception, and sterilization, it is a small jump to be forced to euthanize. History shows this to be true – a small wedge becomes a big gap. Regretably, the current Administration’s actions are war on human life, whether that life is in the womb or whether it is born and has freedom of conscience. As a medical professional, surely you cherish life. Do not fall for this, Sister. The public words are butter but the actual actions are deadly assaults on our beloved faith and our beloved country. God help us. God save us.
