Thanks to pressure by the New Media, MTV decided to scrap its plans for a reality TV show that would have followed young adults in a quest to lose their virginity.
According to Breitbart Big Hollywood, MTV put out a casting call last week that shocked even veteran reporters like Breitbart’s John Nolte. Responding to a tip sent in by a Citizen Journalist, he discovered this appalling casting call on MTV’s website:
“Do you want to take things to the next level? Like, are you ready to hand over your ‘V’ card? Or do you have a friend who is ready to lose it?” the casting call asks.
“Young adulthood is a time for exploration. New relationships, fresh experiences and sexual firsts…Now MTV is looking to frankly capture that journey in a new series called My First…We’re looking for adults who are ready to go all the way. Let MTV come along on your journey… as you try to lose your virginity! (Note: We will be filming whether or not you accomplish this goal… but NOT the act itself. Duh.)”
Only those 18 and older who are willing to “candidly” let MTV follow them on their journey toward “losing it” were asked to contact the network by e-mail.
“MTV can and undoubtedly will hide behind the fact that 18 year-olds are legal adults, but you can prey on adults just as easily as you can prey on children, especially young adults conditioned by pop culture outlets like MTV to believe celebrity and narcissism are virtues,” Nolte writes.
Instead of allowing the network to use celebrity as a bait for young people to exchange a loving relationship for “the indignities of loveless sex”, Nolte spread the word about MTV’s sordid plans by way of New Media outlets and Twitter.
It worked.
As of yesterday, MTV announced that they were not going forward with the show.
“This was a preliminary casting notice, and we’re not moving forward with a pilot,” a rep from the network told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column.
Any evidence of the offensive casting call has been wiped off its website.
Besides the fact that MTV scrubbed the show, “the other news here is that thanks to a tipster, New Media, and a Twitter frenzy that followed, MTV has actually been shamed into doing the right thing — something once considered impossible,” Nolte writes.
“Keep up the great work, America!”
