This Sunday we celebrate the beautiful Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, known as Corpus Christi.
A feast established through the efforts of St. Juliana of Liège, a thirteenth-century Augustinian who had a deep longing for a feast to honor the Blessed Sacrament, it is a day on which Christians are encouraged to celebrate the Eucharist in processions and adoration. In days gone by, entire towns would line the streets as the Sacred Host was held high for all to see. Sadly, since Vatican II, these types of processions have largely fallen out of practice.
During this week’s celebration of Corpus Christi in Rome, Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict, has proposed a renewed emphasis on adoration outside of the liturgy stating that, “In order to truly communicate with another person, I have to know him, I need to know how to remain in silence near him, to listen to him, to look upon him with love”
He continued: “True love and true friendship lives always in this reciprocity of gazes, of intense eloquent silences, full of respect and of veneration, so that the encounter is lived profoundly, in a personal and not superficial way.”
In honor of this feast, we are featuring a number of free resources about the Eucharist and Holy Mass on our website. In addition, our Gold WOG Exclusive members have special access to our best selling video “The Father’s Gift” which offers a blueprint to discover the reality of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
May the abundant life of Jesus Christ bless you abundantly in His Eucharistic presence which is “the source and summit of the Christian life.”
