A fisherman in search of fire wood made a gruesome discovery in Russia’s Ural mountains – four plastic barrels containing the remains of 248 infants.
is reporting that the fetuses were found in a forested area in the Sverdlovsk region of the Urals. Each of the babies was preserved in formaldehyde and tagged with family surnames and numbers.

Sergei Tveritinov, a local resident, told state television he learned about the incident from a neighbor.
“A friend called at night and said he went fishing and wanted to get some wood for his fire,” Tveritinov explained. “He ran into some water canisters and wanted to take them home, but when he came closer he saw little baby bodies.”
It is unclear how long the bodies, aged between 12 and 16 weeks, had been lying in the woods but some had already mummified.
Police have launched an investigation into the source of the barrels which police believe may have come from one of three hospitals in Yekaterinburg, the capital of the Sverdlovsk region.
“It seems the company responsible for disposal of the bio-medical waste did not carry out its duties,” the deputy head of the regional government, Vladimir Vlasov, said on state television.
