The headlines are full of gaffes made by conservative candidates this week, but there are plenty of back-stories you won’t want to miss!
The Outrageous vs. the More Outrageous
Thanks to Breitbart’s Tony Lee, we’re able to see through the hypocrisy surrounding the media’s over-hype of Rep. Todd Akin’s comments regarding abortion. Akin, who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill for the Missouri Senate seat, told an interviewer that during legitimate rate, “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
Naturally, the DNC is stretching this statement to indict the entire Republican party and add more fuel to the old “war on women” mantra.
However, we can only wonder why the media conveniently neglected to do the same when Evelyn Garcia, an ally of DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, was caught sending anti-Semitic e-mails that accused Israel of various crimes against humanity. “By supporting Israeli occupation with US foreign aid, we are all complicit and guilty of their crimes against humanity,” she wrote.
With the media providing cover, the DNC allowed Garcia to remain as a delegate until the e-mails were finally unearthed and she was forced to resign.
But if that’s not outrageous enough, consider the escapades of a Democratic representative to the Minnesota House of Representatives who was caught having sex with a 17 year-old boy at a rest stop last month. A state troooper caught the 56 year-old Gauthier coming out of the woods with his zipper down and his shirt askew.
These two incidents raise the question of why the media is applying Rep. Akin’s comments to the entire Republican party, but aren’t willing to accuse all Democrats of being anti-Semitic or supportive of sex with minors.
We report. You decide.
War on Women vs. the War on Moms
While never willing to miss a single occasion to hype the so-called “war on women,” the media have been very conducive to ignoring evidence of the liberals’ “war on moms.”
Although they were forced to cover the comment by Democratic strategist Hillary Rosen accusing Ann Romney of having “never worked a day in her life” while raising five boys and fighting MS and breast cancer, the media is only too happy to overlook the latest example of liberal anti-motherhood. According to the Charlotte Observer, the DNC is providing no child care during their convention, much to the dismay of one delegate from California who plans to attend with her four year-old daughter.
For once, the National Organization for Women spoke up in her defense and denounced the convention for “discrimination against moms.”
“Women are the key to a Democratic victory, and sometimes, children are the key to women,” Gloria Steinem said in a statement. “It’s both right and smart for the Democratic Convention to behave as if children exist.”
Lindsey Horvath, president of the Hollywood NOW chapter, said the convention policy “creates an insurmountable barrier for mothers … to participate in the process of choosing a presidential candidate.”
Not exactly good press for the “war on women” message – which is probably why so few outlets are reporting it.
FLOTUS Scandal Deemed Unworthy of Press
Did you know that Michelle Obama is spending this week serving as the guest editor for an on-line site that offers sexually explicit material such as sex tips from prostitutes and a list of “naughty” apps for mobile devices?
Probably not. But thanks to CNSNews’ excellent reporting, the story is getting out. Mrs. Obama is guest-editing on NBC’s iVillage – a “community of online women.” Even though her daily videos are based on topics such as fitness, healthy eating and parenting, the site offers a wide range of advice to women that is hardly good family fare. For instance, one article teaches women how to revolutionize their sex moves while another reveals the “top 10 secret places to hook up” at Disney World along with tips on how much time you can expect to have before getting caught in each place.
The most coverage this story is getting in the mainstream media is restricted to Mrs. Obama’s comments about the president’s smoking habit.
So why aren’t they applying the usual liberal (il)logic to this story and accusing the president and first lady of supporting prostitution, hooking up, and how to get away with public indecency?
I guess that’s just too much of a stretch . . .
