Porn Interrupts Vatican’s Good Friday telecast

The nation’s largest cable company has admitted that a commercial for a pornographic franchise broke into a live broadcast of the Vatican’s Good Friday service during a routine test of the Emergency Alert System.

The snafu occurred at 2:00 a.m. EST on Good Friday morning and involved an advertisement for “Girls Gone Wild’s Search for the Wildest Bar in America” DVD.

“We’re obliged to do emergency tests that are usually done in the overnight hours,” said Jeff Alexander, a Comcast spokesman.

The test automatically tunes viewers to a pre-selected channel that is supposed to provide the emergency information. At the time of the test, the channel was airing its regular programming, which included the racy “Girls” video ad.

Mr. Alexander noted that no actual pornography was shown during the glitch and said he had only received one complaint from a viewer.

However, the owner of Girls Gone Wild, CEO Joe Francis, is now making the dubious claim that his company experienced record sales after the incident.  

“We may have tapped into a whole new market,” Francis told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It seems that many of the same people interested in the Pope’s message are also interested in ours.”

Francis added that he was “happy to have shared an audience with the Pope.”
