A new poll conducted among independents and swing voters in several key battleground states has found that President Barack Obama’s stance on social issues will cost him crucial votes.
The Washington Examiner is reporting that the new poll, conducted by the polling company, inc./Woman Trend, President Obama’s support for abortion and taxpayer funded birth control are hurting him among likely swing voters in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin and Florida.
By a two-to-one margin (49% vs. 25%), likely voters said they are less likely to vote for him because of including taxpayer funded abortion in ObamaCare.
Fifty-four percent are less likely to vote for him because he opposed treating babies born alive after a failed abortion.
Even less popular among these voters is the president’s birth control mandate with 69 percent saying they are against forcing religious institutions to violate their consciences. Forty-four percent of those voters say they’re less likely to vote for him because of this position.
“This survey shows that a few straightforward, specific facts about President Obama and abortion shock the collective conscience of swing voters in battleground states,” said pollster Kellyanne Conway. “His support for taxpayer-funded abortion, opposition to Born-Alive Infant protections and ‘intimidation through regulation’ foisted upon religious organizations draws the ire of between one-half and two-thirds of the voters surveyed,” she said.
The poll was conducted for the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List. The List’s president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, reminds that “pro-life voters make up a sizable voting bloc capable of achieving victory in close elections. President Obama’s record of supporting abortion for any reason and at any time is so extreme that even supporters are turning away.”

I think that Governor Mitt Romney’s position of pro-life “except to protect the life of the mother, and except in the cases of rape and incest” is virtually no more pro-life than is President Barak Obama’s position of free choice. This is a weakness in Governor Romney’s platform and President Obama would do well to exploit it in the next debate.
