Planned Parenthood Receives Unwarranted Praise During Debate

Several times during the course of the second presidential debate last night, President Barack Obama praised the nation’s largest abortion provider, including making the false claim that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms.

LifeSiteNews.com is reporting that the president’s allegiance to Planned Parenthood was quite clear at the town hall debate at Hofstra University last night.

“When Governor Romney says that we should eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, there are millions of women all across the country, who rely on Planned Parenthood for, not just contraceptive care, they rely on it for mammograms, for cervical cancer screenings,” the president said.

However, Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms and merely refers women to other providers who perform this test.

Just after he made the comment, Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life,  tweeted, ““For the last time: #plannedparenthood doesn’t do mammograms!!!!”

Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood employee, posted on Facebook: “Did Obama seriously talk about these imaginary mammograms again??”

The president also took up the same weapons being wielded by the perpetrators of the “war on women” argument.

“You know a major difference in this campaign is that Governor Romney feels comfortable having politicians in Washington decide the health care choices that women are making,” the president said. “Governor Romney not only opposed it, he suggested that in fact employers should be able to make the decision as to whether or not a woman gets contraception through her insurance coverage.”

Gov. Mitt Romney, the president’s opponent, did not conceal his pro-life views and his opposition to the birth control mandate and Planned Parenthood funding.

The Governor also seized an opportunity to promote family values when answering a question about his position on gun control.

After saying that he wanted to reduce the culture of violence that surrounds young people, he added: “Let me mention another thing, and that is parents. We need moms and dads, helping to raise kids. Wherever possible the benefit of having two parents in the home, and that’s not always possible. [There are] a lot of great single moms, single dads.”

He added: “To tell our kids that before they have babies, they ought to think about getting married to someone, that’s a great idea.”

  1. How do I get to the brochure you talked about in which there is information for women on the real “war on women”, talking about birth control pills, abortion, etc.?
