A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Delaware is coming under fire after a series of patients were rushed to nearby emergency rooms and two nurses allege the clinics are operating in an unsanitary manner.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, two former nurses at the clinic described serious problems with the way the facility is being run.

“It was just unsafe. I couldn’t tell you how ridiculously unsafe it was,” said Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich, a former employee.

She went on to describe the unsanitary conditions inside the clinic, such as the doctor not wearing gloves during surgeries.

Another nurse, name Joyce Vasikonis, said “They were using instruments on patients that were not sterile.”

Both nurses, who quit to protect their medical licenses, said they were stunned by the meat-market style of abortions where the rush to get patients in and out left operating tables soiled and unsanitary.

“The operating table was not washed down, it’s not even cleaned off,” Werbich said. “It has bloody drainage on it.”

Both felt patients could be at risk as well as their own licenses.

“I felt I could be held liable if a patient was harmed,” Vasikonis said.

Werbich added: “Planned Parenthood needs to close its doors, it needs to be cleaned up, the staff needs to be trained.”

As terrible as these allegations are, this clinic is being run in a state that conducts no routine inspections on abortion clinics. Planned Parenthood is essentially in charge of inspecting itself. The state only steps in when a complaint is filed.

Mary Peterson from the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services told ABC: “I am not going to lie to you, we don’t have the manpower to do routine inspections.”

She says, her investigators went into the facility in October of last year after a complaint, but found no evidence of unsanitary conditions. It was not reported as to whether her inspection was a surprise, or if Planned Parenthood knew about it beforehand and was able to clean up the site before inspectors arrived.

That something is going very wrong inside this particular clinic is evidenced by the fact that since January 4th of this year, five patients have allegedly been rushed from the facility to a nearby emergency room.

ABCNews also learned during its investigation that one doctor and two other nurses at the clinic have mysteriously left. Planned Parenthood has not confirmed if they were fired or resigned.

Planned Parenthood of Delaware CEO Ruth Lytle-Barnaby denied all of the allegations, but did say that she is launching a review of patient services.

“I determined that we need to take immediate steps to assure our patients of our high-quality care, including enacting immediate personnel changes. We do not tolerate employees that fail to meet our standards for patient care and services.”

In the meantime, the clinic has temporarily suspended all surgical abortions at the site.

Planned Parenthood is not the only organization that plans to look into the problems at this particular clinic.

The Delaware Department of Health says it is looking into the cause of the problems at this facility.

This investigation could lead to a tightening of abortion clinic regulation similar to what occurred in Pennsylvania in the wake of the West Philadelphia clinic known as the House-of-Horrors because of its gruesome and unsanitary conditions. Clinic owner Kermit Gosnell is currently on trial for the murder of one woman and at least seven babies who were born alive but killed after having their spinal cords snipped with a scissor.

Pennsylvania has since tightened its regulations and now requires abortion clinics to meet the same standards as any other outpatient surgical center and undergo unannounced random inspections at least once a year. As a result of these new laws, five sub-standard abortion clinics have been forced to close.

Instead of expressing a willingness to comply for the sake of the health and well-being of their patients, abortion industry leaders such as Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards are politicizing the issue by  accusing pro-life lawmakers of waging a war on abortion by imposing costly regulations that will force clinics to close.

As a result, the abortion industry continues to fight all efforts to make their clinics safer for women.
