The family of slain late-term abortion provider George Tiller announced on Tuesday that his Wichita clinic will be “permanently closed,” effective immediately.
In a statement released by Tiller’s attorneys, his family said it is ceasing operation of Women’s Health Care Services, Inc. The family also stated that they will not be involved in any other clinic.
“We are proud of the service and courage shown by our husband and father and know that women’s health care needs have been met because of his dedication and service,” the family said.
The family reassured Tiller’s previous patients that the privacy of their medical records will remain “as fiercely protected now and in the future” as they were during Tiller’s lifetime.
Tiller was shot to death May 31 at a Lutheran church church in Wichita. Scott Roeder is being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the physician’s death.
More than 60,000 unborn children are thought to have lost their lives at the clinic during its operation, many of them to a variety of brutal late-term abortion procedures, including one in which babies are partially birthed, then killed by having their skulls punctured and their brains removed. Tiller was one of only three physicians in the U.S. that would perform these abortions up to the ninth month of pregnancy.
“We are thankful that Tiller’s clinic will not reopen and thankful that Wichita is now abortion-free,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, a pro-life organization that has long sough to shut down Tiller’s clinic.
“It is our sincere prayer that threats to open another third-trimester abortion clinic in Kansas will not come to fruition so that the healing process for this state and community can begin,” he said.
