ObamaCare Showdown On the Way!

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) announced a new strategy yesterday to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month, but only if ObamaCare supporters on the Hill agree to put the Affordable Care Act on hold until 2015.

“It’s time to protect American families from this unworkable law,” Speaker Boehner said yesterday.

He went on to announce his intentions to back a proposed plan to hitch the vote to defund ObamaCare to a continuing resolution (CR) that will keep the government running after September 30. The plan will keep the government running until December 15 with a $988 billion budget extension. In exchange, they want President Obama’s signature health care law to be put on hold until 2015.

“To the cheers of conservative activists everywhere, Republican members of the House emerged from a closed-door meeting this morning with the news everyone was waiting for: the GOP is ready to fight,” reports the Family Research Center.

“But here’s the best part. If Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) doesn’t take the deal, his party will be forced to shut down the government — to protect a law that a majority of Americans don’t even want! Unlike other proposals, Tom Graves’s measure would not only solve the problem of abortion funding in health care, but put a cease-fire on conscience violations,” the FRC reports.

Should ObamaCare backers refuse to compromise and it comes to a government shutdown, polls show that a majority (51%) of Americans would support cutting off government funding if it means putting off ObamaCare.

“Every member in this room is for defunding ObamaCare while letting the rest of the government continue to operate,” said Speaker Boehner. “We’re going to put ObamaCare defunding directly into the CR. And then we’re going to send it over to the Senate, so our conservative allies over there can contribute to the fight. That’s where the fight is.”

The next few weeks in Washington are about to become very interesting!
