The American Family Association (AFA) has launched a nationwide boycott of McDonald’s after the fast-food giant refused a request to cease its support of the homosexual agenda.
AFA founder Don Wildmon went to McDonalds several months ago after learning that the company donated $20,000 to National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) in exchange for membership and a seat on the NGLCC board of directors. The NGLCC lobbies Congress on a wide range of issues including the promotion of homosexual marriage.
“We contacted McDonald’s and showed them what they were doing, that is, helping to support the homosexual agenda,” Wildmon told OneNewsNow. “ . . .(O)ne of the primary purposes of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce is to promote homosexual marriage.”
Wildmon wrote to McDonalds requesting two things: that McDonald’s remove its name and logo from the NGLCC web site, as well as the endorsement of NGLCC by Richard Ellis, Vice President of Communications for McDonald’s USA, who is openly homosexual.
In a letter written to the AFA by Pat Harris, Global Chief Diversity Officer of McDonald’s, the company refused both requests.
“We have a well-established and proud heritage of associating with individuals and organizations that share in the belief that every person has the right to live and work in their community free of discrimination,” Harris wrote.
As Wildmon points out, “This boycott is not about hiring homosexuals, or homosexuals eating at McDonald’s, or how homosexual employees are treated. It is about McDonald’s, as a corporation, choosing to put the full weight of their corporation behind promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage.”
The company refuses to back down, however. McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner has pledged his full support to the NGLCC agenda. “Being a socially responsible organization is a fundamental part of who we are,” Skinner told the AFA. “We have an obligation to use our size and resources to make a difference in the world – and we do.”
