In spite of the fact that the majority of Americans oppose President Barack Obama’s decision to use taxpayer money to fund overseas abortions, a New York Congresswoman is asking the government to increase this funding from $50 million to $530 million to “reverse a decade of inadequate funding.”
After President Obama rescinded an eight year-old executive order banning the use of taxpayer funding for organizations that provide foreign abortions, the State Department released $50 million dollars this week to the United National Population Fund (UNFPA), an organization linked to China’s one-child policy and coerced abortions.
However, Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and other House members are asking Congress to give UNFPA and other international “family planning” organizations a major funding boost.
In a letter to ranking members of the Foreign Operations Subcommittee, Slaughter asks for an increase of $530 million in order to create “a healthier world and planet” by “slowing the population’s… growth” in poor countries.
As she explains, “95 percent of the world’s population growth occurs in poor countries straining economies, the environment and social stability.”
In other words, spending more money on contraceptive programs and abortion facilities to cleanse the world of poor people will help ease the “strain” of having to support them.
Slaughter makes this request in spite of a recent Gallop poll that found an overwhelming majority of Americans (65%) object to the use of taxpayer money to fund overseas abortions.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council says that even though President Obama may not be able to stop AIG from exploiting taxpayers, he “can certainly keep his party from giving ‘family planning’ groups a raise!”
