Lawmakers Vow to Fight Phony War on Women

A new resolution has been introduced at the Republican National Committee (RNC) meeting this week that will urge pro-life candidates for national office to fight back against the deceptive “war on women” rhetoric used so successfully in past campaigns by speaking up about the extreme positions on abortion held by those who are waging it.

CNN is reporting that Delaware National Committeewoman Ellen Barrosse and 15 other members of the RNC have introduced the “Resolution on Republican Pro-Life Strategy” which urges members to take the fight to those who are waging the phony “war on women” by revealing the truth about the radical stance of many of the lawmakers who are planning to run for office in the near future.

“The Republican National Committee urges all Republican pro-life candidates, consultants, and other national Republican Political Action Committees to reject a strategy of silence on the abortion issue when candidates are attacked with ‘war on women’ rhetoric,” the resolution reads.

Keeping quiet about the phoniness of this war has not been a successful strategy, Barrosse said, and used the failed presidential bid of Mitt Romney and Virginia gubernatorial candidae Ken Cuccinelli as examples of why pro-life lawmakers need to defend themselves against “war on women” attacks such as those used in 2012 and 2013.

“Not talking about it has not worked well for us,” Barrosse told CNN in an interview. “Not responding has not worked well for us. It’s a conversation the party has to have.”

Republicans who oppose abortion have an obligation to confront the hot button issue during their campaigns, rather than hope it disappears, she added.

RNC spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski called the resolution “one of the first steps for the GOP to start taking back messaging on this false war on women” and said it “provides guidance on messaging, on how to do that, and how we can positively promote our social agenda using facts.”

Some of those facts include the rising tide of pro-life sentiment welling across the U.S., which was especially pronounced after the trial of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell who used gruesome methods to kill babies born alive after late-term abortions.

As the resolution states, pro-life candidates need not hide their views because, according to polling giant Gallup, they have the majority of the people on their side.

For instance:

• 87% support informed-consent laws about certain possible risks of the abortion procedure;

• 80% support banning abortion during the 3rd trimester;

• 71% support parental consent laws;

• 69% support imposing a 24-hour wait period before an abortion;

• 64% of Americans support banning abortion during the 2nd trimester;

• 64% support banning partial-birth abortion;

• 64% support spousal notification laws that require the husband to be simply notified if his wife seeks an abortion.

As the resolution states, these facts need to be revealed along with the sometimes radical positions of pro-abortion candidates which are usually hidden by the mainstream media as well. It’s time for pro-life candidates to speak up and the resolution clearly states it will not support pro-life candidates who refuse to do so.

Staying silent fails because this strategy allows pro-abortion candidates to define their pro-life opponents and prevents them from attracting traditional and new values voters.

A January 24 vote is scheduled for the resolution.
