The 14 year-old son of a woman undergoing cancer treatments sent his mom a most unexpected love note when he carved “Hi Mom – God Bless U” into the snow atop the parking garage of the hospital where she was staying. The image has now gone viral.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Sharon Hart, 48, was undergoing a third day of chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia last weekend at Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center when she received an unexpected call from her teenage son, William, telling her to look outside her window.
Little did she know, he had climbed up to the top floor of the parking garage next door and stomped “Hi Mom” into the snow with a smiley face in the “O”.
“I wanted to send her the message because I thought it would brighten her spirits and help her get through this,” said William, a high school freshman. “I would love for her to be happy.”
Referring to the dire diagnosis she received on February 3, he said: “This has been rough. I’ve been praying a lot and trying to not think about what’s going on so I can do good in school.”
With the aid of a nurse, his mother was able to get to the window to see the message which immediately lifted her spirits as well as those of the hospital staff and other patients who could clearly see the message from their windows.
When William and his father realized how much joy it was bringing to everyone, they hurried back to the parking garage and added the words “God Bless U!” as a message to all the other patients. As they stomped the message into the snow, people flocked to their hospital windows, waving and cheering them on.
It wasn’t long before people began posting pictures on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
“My son has never done anything like this before,” said Hart, 48. “He is a very caring child and very loving. … He acted on instinct and from what was in his heart. I’m glad so many people got to see the message and that it touched so many. It shows how big God is.”
William only intended to cheer his mother’s heart, but his loving gesture is now warming hearts around the world!
“It’s amazing,” William said about the incident. ” . . . (J)ust to see people feel happy feels good.”
