New poll numbers are revealing America’s waning trust in the Obama Administration to identify the right solutions to problems facing the country. Especially in the area of health care reform where bills are being created that will force taxpayers to pay for abortions, support is plummeting.
A new poll by Public Strategies Inc. and Politico show that Americans are losing trust in the president and Congress. The number of Americans who say they trust the president has fallen from 66 percent to 54 percent while those who say they do not trust the president has jumped from 31 to 42.
Rushing legislation and passing bills that have not been read is also costing the Democratically controlled Congress the trust of the American people. In March, 52 percent of those polled said they trusted the party and 42 percent did not. The new poll found those numbers had reversed – 42 percent said they trusted the party while 52 percent did not.
The poll, which is based on 1,000 online surveys of registered voters conducted July 9-12, also found that only 44 percent of Americans believe the government is on the right track. Just 32 percent believe the government can be trusted to manage its finances responsibly.
However, the administration is also losing valuable ground in the area of health care. For the first time, a Washington Post poll found that only 29 percent of Americans strongly approve of the president’s health care performance thus far, with 35 percent strongly disapproving. These numbers are down eight percent from April.
Another 44 percent of Americans now say they don’t trust Obama to handle health care and that number is expected to rise after his budget chief said abortions may be included in the final package the president signs.
Recent polls show that the majority of Americans are pro-life with 86 percent favoring some abortion restrictions. The inclusion of this unpopular coverage in health care reform is likely to make the bills much harder to pass in Congress and erode the nation’s trust even further.
Douglas Johnson, of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), warned that the Tri-Committee health care bill being considered this week in Congress “contains provisions that will result in federally mandated coverage of abortion on demand in virtually all of America’s health plans.”
And state laws that limit abortions, such as waiting periods and parental notification requirements “may be nullified as conflicting with the purposes of the federal law,” he explains in a LifeNews.com report.
Johnson is calling on every pro-life person to immediately call their members of the House and Senate and to oppose any health care bill that does not specifically exclude abortion funding and coverage. He says time is of the essence.
“The House Democratic leadership says that it intends to have these bills on the floor of the Senate and the House, respectively, during the last week in July, and President Obama is personally pushing hard for quick approval,” he said.
“The pro-life movement needs to go to Condition-Red on these bills, which pose a grave and immediate threat to the pro-life cause,” he added.
