A two year-old boy was injured in an Illinois playground on Monday while playing on monkey bars in a local park that had been booby-trapped with razor blades.

WQAD8.com is reporting that Madden Jenks, 2, was with his father, Jayson Kenney, on Monday at Millennium Park in East Moline, Illinois when the incident occurred. According to the boy’s mother, Sally Jenks, the minute Madden’s hands touched the monkey bars, he cried “Ouch!” and his finger started bleeding.

The parents looked up and saw razor blades that had been glued to the bars.

” . . . They were everywhere. The razor blades were everywhere,” Sally said. “They were on the monkey bars, the rock-climbing wall, the fire pole, the bottom of the slide. Just everywhere.”

Kenney explained:  “All the razor blades were placed up, so when you grabbed them it would hit your wrist or your hands. It’s pretty sick. Psychotic. Luckily, it wasn’t deeper. He wasn’t old enough to put his weight on the monkey bars. What if he didn’t cut his hand and he slit his wrist?”

Police were called to the scene, which happened at around 1:00 p.m. Thankfully, it was not a weekend when the park might have been more crowded.

At present, authorities do not know who might have done this, but took fingerprint evidence from the scene and are pursuing possible leads.

“I don’t know why they would think about hurting children,” Sally said. “Why would that be something to come into your mind, to put razor blades at a children’s park?”
