The largest publisher of homosexual newspapers in the U.S. has shut down, forcing a string of newspapers and journals across the nation to close as well.
According to a report by LifeSiteNews.com, Window Media LLC, which owns gay publications such as the Washington Blade, Houston Voice, South Florida Blad, David Atlanta and 411 Magazine, was forced into receivership by the federal Small Business Administration (SBA) earlier this year due to insufficient capital and could no longer stay afloat.
The company had hoped to establish a chain of thriving gay and lesbian journals across the country, but the same financial difficulties that plague the print press in general in the US made it impossible for the venture to survive.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that employees of the Southern Voice, a homosexual weekly in Atlanta, learned the company had folded only after coming to work on Monday and finding the locks on the doors changed and a sign informing them that their parent company had closed.
The SBA can now sell the company’s assets, but potential buyers will also have to pay off the debt accrued to these publications at federal rates.
