The family of a little girl who is dying of an unknown brain disease is appealing to the hearts of people everywhere to send a “lifetime of Christmas cards” to their daughter who is not expected to live much longer.
The New York Daily News is reporting on the tragic story of six year-old Addie Lynn Fausett whose health began to deteriorate several years ago.
“Little Addie was a sweet, loving, healthy little beauty,” describes Kimberly Taylor Brown, a family friend, on the family’s Facebook page. “Suddenly her muscles no longer wanted to do what she wanted them to do. Holding a crayon or even a spoon became an impossible task. Her sweet words of love turned to mystery as to what she was trying to say. A diagnosis still has yet to be found but they do know that her brain is basically shrinking and filling with fluid (diffuse atrophy). This is causing her loss of motor skills.”
To date, doctors are unable to determine the cause of this atrophy, but believe this will be Addie’s last Christmas on earth. They have warned the family that they will lose Addie mentally before physically and that she will slowly forget them and the things she knows.
For this reason, the family prays every day that Addie will not wake up the next day and have forgotten them.

To make matters even worse, Addie’s father, who was separated from her mother, recently passed away.
As overwhelming as their situation is right now, Addie’s mother, Tami, is determined to make this a Christmas to remember for Addie and her two sisters, Audree, 7, and Shayley, 10. She launched a Facebook campaign calling for enough Christmas cards for Addie to last a lifetime.
“She doesn’t get to play with kids, so we thought if everyone would send her a card, we could tell her they were all her friends and it would make her Christmas a little bit better,” Tami explained.
Addie’s plight came to the attention of Children and the Earth, a non-profit organization that raises money for underprivileged children. In addition to raising funds to cover Addie’s medical care, they have also become involved in the campaign asking everyone to send Addie a Christmas card this year.
Amber Brosig of Children and the Earth reports that at least 5,000 cards have already been mailed to Addie.
“She loves to open the cards,” Brosig told the Daily News. “It’s like a present every time” she gets one.
Addie especially loves handmade cards.
