A former business professor from the Franciscan University of Steubenville has decided to help legislators and the general public better understand what is contained in the Senate’s health care reform legislation by making the entire document available as a searchable on-line document.

Zenit News is reporting that Douglas Lowry, founder and president of Marpex, Inc. developed the online version for “decision-makers, reporters, and commentators. At the same time, it is free to all who want to download or search, since an informed populace is the backbone of democracy,” Mr. Lowry said.

“Busy people, least of all senators, do not have time to fully digest 2,074 pages of legal prose,” he explained. “The search engine is designed to get at meaning quickly on whatever topics happen to be of particular interest.”

For instance, a search for word “abortion” resulted in five places where abortion is discussed in the bill. The word “Medicare” resulted in 400 “hits.”

Lowry said that the online version provides “a quick way to fact-check statements,” and to “help people to get at meaning that is relevant to them, quickly.”

The online document can be found at www.marpx.com
