A woman who was six-months pregnant was shot and killed by her boyfriend on April 19, but used the last of her strength to dial 9-1-1 and tell a dispatcher where she was in order to save her unborn daughter’s life.
Fox 59.com is reporting on the tragic story of 25 year-old Kimberly Dianne Richardson of Raleigh, North Carolina who was shot outside of her work place on Sunday morning.
Just after she was shot, she managed to dial 9-1-1 and whispered, “Help, I’ve been shot” and was able to tell dispatchers her exact location before succumbing to her injuries.
Richardson was quickly found by police and rushed to a nearby hospital where her daughter, Lacy Grey, was delivered by Cesarean section.
Officers believe the strength Richardson showed in her final moments ultimately saved the life of her baby.
Richardson’s boyfriend, Daniel Steele, 25, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
The family has given no further information about the status of tiny Lacy Grey.
Meanwhile, friends of Kimberly have set up a fundraising website to help the family defray the cost of Kimberly’s funeral and the medical expenses associated with Lacy’s delivery and care.
“This fundraiser is dedicated to raising money . . . to aid her family as they mourn the loss of such a precious soul and care for Kimberly’s infant daughter,” the site explains. “Along with funeral costs, the family may need support with medical bills for Lacy who was born premature due to the tragic loss of her mother. All the proceeds from this fundraiser will be given to the family as a gift and reminder that Kimberly and Lacy are loved.”
As of this writing, more than $2,000 has been donated.
