This year marks the third annual March for Marriage which will take place in Washington DC on April 25, just three days before the Supreme Court hears arguments on four cases that could determine the future of same-sex marriage in America.
Sponsored by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), this year’s event is being billed as the “most critical march ever” as Justices in the nation’s highest court prepare to deliberate on whether or not same-sex marriage is a constitutional right.
“The March for Marriage is a powerful demonstration to the media, opinion leaders, legislators and jurists that a majority of Americans still stand for marriage as it has been traditionally and historically defined and handed down through the centuries,” NOM writes. “A recent national survey found that 53 percent of American voters believe that marriage is only the union of one man and one woman, and that 61 percent of voters are opposed to the U.S. Supreme Court forcing states to require same-sex ‘marriage’.”
The March begins on Saturday with a gathering at the national mall at 11:30 a.m. Participants will hear from speakers including Brian Brown, president and co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage as well as Archbishops William E. Lori of Baltimore and Joseph F. Kurtz of Louisville and Papal Nuncio Carlos Maria Vigano. Josh Duggar, of the popular TLC hit program, 19 Kids and Counting, will also speak along with Cathy Ruse of the Family Research Council and Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel.
For those who can’t attend in person, virtual participation is being encouraged. Virtual marchers sign up to be a member of the Virtual March and can participate by organizing events and other activities in support of marriage in their communities, then sending photos to pics@marriagemarch.org.
The EWTN News Nightly (ENN) team will also be on the scene and will air coverage of the March next week.
As NOM explains, “The March for Marriage is poised to become an essential and indispensable vehicle for voicing the values of pro-marriage Americans in a way that cuts through the biased media narrative and demands hearing in the halls of power.”
