“Analyze and foresee, organize andauthority figure 3 command, coordinate and control, these are the prudential duties of one who is charged with a mission of authority.”
                           -Gustave Thils

For Reflection:
Do I believe these qualities are important to “one who is charged with a mission of authority?” Why or why not? What is the difference between being in control and being controlling? Do I emulate any of these qualities? Which? Is there one I need to grow in most? Which?

Foreword  page xiii

The position of authority which this saintly Dominican has attained in Europe as a master of the spiritual life and a staunch defender of the traditional teaching on mystical theology is owing in no small measure to the personal sanctity which accompanied his erudition.  His fellow religious have frequently testified to his strict observance of the Dominican life:  his extreme aversion to waste of time; his dauntless courage in the face of the attacks and accusations which were brought against him when he first began to write in defense of the faith and the traditional mystical doctrine.
