Obeying And Suffering

gracelinesheader

“Once the Lord told me that I was notSt Teresa Avila5 obeying, unless I was determined to suffer, I must fix my eyes on all that he had suffered and I should find everything easy.”

                                       -St. Teresa of Avila

For Reflection:

In light of St. Teresa’s quote and in light of the life of Christ, what is the connection between obedience and suffering? How can keeping our eyes on Jesus provide consolation in the midst of our obedience?

In this study even the most humble Christian will learn how to appreciate worthily his immeasurable dignity as a son of God and to act in all things in conformity with that dignity, despising the grandeurs of the world.  He will learn to cherish the divine gift, to love it with all his heart and to cultivate it with all possible solicitude.
