That is why it will not be inopportune to speak of the angels. It might be noted further that the greatest among the saints and men of God, from St. Augustine to John Henry Newman, have always lived on familiar terms with them. And the tradition of the Church has always accorded them a very large place in her theology. It is enough to recall the lengthy articles devoted to them in the Summa Theologica of St. Thomas, where the most subtle questions concerning their nature and their grace, their intellect and their love are solved with an admirable mastery.
