In a perfect example of how the secular media distorts the Pope’s words in order to make them fit their own agenda, TIME Magazine has been caught deliberately misquoting Francis’ comments about abortion.
According to Breitbart, TIME’s reporting on the Pope’s historic “virtual town hall” last week censored out portions of his comments which referred to abortion as “killing” an unborn child.
The exchange involved a young single mother of two named Rosemary Farfan who told the pope about her struggles as a single mother and the problems she encountered while trying to raise her children alone. Her testimony brought high praise from the Pope who applauded her for choosing to bring her children to life.
“I know that people can sometimes look askance at you. But I’ll tell you one thing. You’re a brave woman because you were capable of bringing these two daughters into the world. You could have killed them inside your womb and you respected life, you respected the life you were carrying inside you and God will reward you for that and He does reward for you for that. Don’t be ashamed. Hold your head high. ‘I didn’t kill my daughters. I brought them into the world.’ I congratulate you.”
Instead of printing the complete comment, TIME chose to censor it.

You respected the life you were carrying inside you and God is going to reward you for that and he does reward for you for that. Don’t be ashamed. I congratulate you.”
Although it’s not entirely surprising that TIME would delete all references to “killing” when discussing the subject of abortion, what is truly offensive is the way they went about it. Instead of indicating that portions of his comments had been deleted – which is typically done by including ellipses in the place where words were deleted – they published this doctored statement in quotes with no indication that anything was missing. This left readers to believe that they were reading exactly what the pope said when, in fact, this was not the case.
“Of course, Time magazine wasn’t alone,” writes Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D., for Breitbart. “The New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, and USA Today didn’t bother reporting on the Pope’s references to abortion at all, since a strong pro-life message doesn’t fit within their narrative of what they want this Pope to be. But at least they didn’t resort to actually fudging Francis’ words.”
He concludes: “If this is a foretaste of how the mainstream media will be reporting on the Pope’s upcoming visit to the United States, one can expect a very selective message, manipulated to conform to politically correct canons.”
