Texas Strips Planned Parenthood Funding

texas flagsAfter several of its top doctors were caught on film trafficking in fetal body parts, Planned Parenthood affiliates in the state of Texas were stripped of their Medicaid funding yesterday.

The Daily Caller is reporting that the Texas Health and Human Services department said in a five-page letter to the affiliates that Planned Parenthood clinics in Texas were “no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner.”

The letter cited the undercover videos which were released by The Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life organization that posed as a fetal body parts buyer during an undercover investigation that lasted several years.

The affiliates who were implicated in the videos are now being held liable, “directly or by affiliation, for a series of serious Medicaid program violations” which were highlighted by the videos.

The letter also alleges that Planned Parenthood unlawfully alters the timing or method of abortions to harvest desirable tissue from aborted fetuses.

In addition, the state is alleging that the facilities are unsafe because of poorly trained staff who are unable to control the possibility for infection while handling the blood and tissue of aborted fetuses.

The move will strip Planned Parenthood of between $3 and $4 million in Medicaid funds.

Even though the Obama Administration, which is a well-known friend of Planned Parenthood, has warned states that defunding the abortion giant violates Medicaid laws regarding access to care, five states have already done so – New Hampshire, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Utah.

Planned Parenthood has consistently denied any wrongdoing which was captured on film during the investigation. They claim the videos were doctored even though forensic experts have declared them to be authentic.

Thus far, Senate Democrats have been successful in blocking efforts to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level; however, House Republicans are currently conducting an investigation into the organization’s use of taxpayer funds and whether or not some clinics are violating partial-birth abortion and fetal tissue laws.
