The head of the embattled community organizing group, ACORN, told a group of young people that they should be proud to call themselves socialists and used the rise of the Tea Party movement to warn about increased racial persecution in the days ahead.
FoxNews.com is reporting that ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis, speaking to members of the Young Democratic Socialists group last month, warned the crowd that “they are coming. And they are coming after you.”
She went on to say: “Any group that says, ‘I’m young, I’m Democratic, and I’m a socialist,’ is all right with me. You know that’s no light thing to do — to actually say, I’m a socialist — because you guys know right now we are living in a time which is going to dwarf the McCarthy era. It is going to dwarf the internment during World War II. We are right now in a time that is going to dwarf the era of Jim Crow and segregation.”
As proof of her dire predictions, Lewis pointed to the Tea Parties. “This is not rhetoric or hyperbole — this is real. This rise of this Tea Party so-called movement — bowel movement in my estimation — and this blatant uncovering and ripping off the mask of racism.”
She went on to urge the group, which is a branch of Socialst International, to do everything they can to “build this institution.”
Only a few days ago, Lewis told The Associated Press that ACORN is “on life support” since losing its taxpayer funding. The group has been decimated by charges of embezzlement and voter registration fraud and is scrambling to reconstruct itself under new names in order to get back on the government’s payroll.
Even though a federal judge ruled that the denial of funds was unconstitutional because the the government had not yet proven that the organization mishandled funds, an appeals court ruled this week that the ban on funds must remain in place until further hearings can take place this summer.
