Final Prep Underway for 2016 March for Life

march 2016 logoThis year’s March for Life is expected to be another colossal event with hundreds of thousands of marchers expected and a diverse group of speakers who will touch on this year’s theme: Pro Life – Pro Woman.

March for Life 2016 will take place on January 22 which marks the 43rd anniversary of the legalization of abortion in America. It will begin at 12 noon on the National Mall and end at 3:00 p.m. on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court. Afterward, participants are being urged to visit their representatives to urge them to support laws that will end abortion-on-demand, stop funneling taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood, and work to restore a culture of life in the United States.

Matt BirkMatt Birk, the former Baltimore Ravens player and Super Bowl Champion who famously refused to attend a meeting with President Obama because of the president’s support of Planned Parenthood, will headline the day’s speakers. Matt and his wife, Adrianna, are both actively involved in the pro-life movement, including with their local pregnancy center and past participation in pro-life marches. The couple have 6 children and currently reside in Greenwich, CT.

A former writer for Cosmopolitan Magazine, Mrs. SueEllen Browder, will also speak at the event. She is the author of the book, Subverted, which details how the women’s movement was joined to the sexual revolution in the 1960s after a group of men convinced feminist leaders that abortion should be a woman’s right.

Jim Daly, president of Focus on the Family, one of the nation’s leading pro-family groups, will also address marchers. Daly was abandoned by his father at the age of five and lost his mother four years later to cancer. After her funeral, his stepfather abandoned him and his four siblings – n ow orphans – who were left to fend for themselves. He spent several rough years in foster care before finding Christ in high school and going on to become the leader of a national organization dedicated to helping families thrive.

Dr. Marguerite Duane, MD, the co-founder of Fertility Appreciation Collaborative to Teach the Science (FACTS) and the mother of four, will also speak. She will be joined by Jewels Green of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign who tried to kill herself three times after an abortion in 1989.

Concordia studentsNathan Grime, a student at Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana will also speak. He is one of 70 students from the school who will have the great honor of carrying the famous March for Life banner at the front of the march.

“To hold the banner is a great honor,” said junior Jack Wert, who will be attending the March. “I get to be the face, one of the leaders of the charge to support our cause. I wouldn’t be surprised if, when our cause is successful, a picture of that banner with us behind it will appear in history books for our children to see.”

Caitlin Jane, a Christian Music Artist, and Shawn Welcome, a Performance Poet, will provide entertainment during the rally.

“We are very excited about our lineup of speakers for this year’s march,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund. “The breadth of industry represented by these valuable leaders underscores the fact that people from all walks of life have a stake in the fight for life.”
