In spite of an impending storm forecasters say will be the worst to hit the DC Metro area in decades, the 43rd annual March for Life is on!
The Washington Post is reporting on today’s event which will bring hundreds of thousands of people into Washington DC even though a major snowstorm is bearing down on the area.
According to officials, because the worst of the storm is not expected to hit the area until the early evening hours, when most buses will be on their way out of town, they have decided not to impose a cancellation which allows them to withdraw the permit for the march due to a severe weather event.
However, U.S. Park Police spokeswoman, Sgt. Anna Rose, told the Post that as of Thursday afternoon, officials decided the march would be safe.
“As of this moment, it’s on,” Rose said. “This is a First Amendment event, and if people want to come and demonstrate, we want them to be able to come say what they have to say.”
And they will – but March organizers are keeping a close eye on the situation.
“We’re watching it very closely,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “I would ask that organizers make good decisions for their participants . . . We are not forcing anyone to come, we are encouraging everyone to do what they think keeps them safest” even if that means watching the event at home on television.
However, for those who want to march, “we want to provide that opportunity to continue doing so,” Mancini said.
For obvious reasons, turnout is expected to be smaller than the usual 500,000 but that still adds up to a lot of people in a city that has already declared a state of emergency.
When it comes to being a voice for the 58 million Americans who have lost their lives since the passage of Roe v. Wade 43 years ago, pro-lifers are not about to let a little snow stand in their way.
As Students for Life tweeted, “Epic snowstorm headed for DC – nothing compared to the #prolifegen that’s about to arrive there!”
Wherever we are on this on this national day of mourning for the millions of lives lost to abortion, let us march together in prayer and sacrifice today to atone for what is certainly one of the greatest crimes against humanity.
