While this quote may sound discouraging, it, in fact, speaks of the sanctifying effects of the married state. Why is mortification so essential to the spiritual life? How does this help me “reframe” the daily stresses of married life?

While Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem He spoke for the third time to His disciples about His passion and death, and of His glorious resurrection.The language of the Cross is not easy to understand. They had not placed any limits on how far they were willing to follow Our Lord; nor have we. And so, when we make petition for something, when we pray, we ought to be disposed towards accepting, above all, the Will of God; even when it does not accord or run parallel with our wishes,…He will always give us what is best.
