Transgender Arrested in Target

sean patrick smithAn Idaho Falls man who told police he identifies as a woman was arrested on Tuesday for taking photos of a woman in a dressing room at the local Target.

According to EastIdahoNews.com, Sean Patrick Smith, 46, who also goes by the name of Shauna Patricia Smith, was booked on one felony count of voyeurism after he entered a women’s dressing room on Monday around 5:00 p.m. where he was spotted taking pictures of a woman in the stall next to him as she was trying on clothes.

“The woman was begging for help as she chased the man out the door,” said a witness who did not wish to be named. “She kept saying she wanted those pictures deleted.”

Smith left the store but police detectives located him the following day and arrested him.

Police booked him into the Bonneville County Jail as a male and are currently investigating to see if there are any other victims.

Smith’s action is bound to put a damper on the oft-repeated argument in favor of allowing people to use facilities that correspond with their gender identity –  that no transgender has ever attacked anyone in a dressing room or bathroom.

However, Smith is not the first transgender to attack a woman in a private facility, and he certainly won’t be the last.
