Thus far, only two people in the entire state of New Jersey have signed up for new health care plans created by ObamaCare.
MyFoxNY.com is reporting that only two residents of the state will begin receiving coverage today under two policies that are now accepting applicants. Called the NJ Protect plans, they are available to people who have been without insurance for at least six months and submit evidence of pre-existing conditions. The state will receive $141 million in federal subsidies that will cover claims that exceed the premiums paid by the beneficiaries. Both plans cost anywhere from $200 to $800 a month depending on age.
Tom Vincz, spokesman for Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, told MyFoxNY that he expects more people to enroll in the coming weeks, even though only 600 applications were downloaded and less than 300 information kits have been sent out since the programs were announced on August 1.
Comments following this story on the MyFoxNY website were largely critical of the plans’ high premiums, particularly one person who took a jab at Obama for being out of touch by citing Sasha Obama’s $1200 Gucci backpack.
“Who can afford these ‘premiums’?” another asked. “And they are going to FORCE us to buy gov’ment insurance? Not me! I’m going to wait to be arrested.”
