Here’s Who Voted Against Sparing the Unborn Excruciating Pain

Commentary by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS

By a vote of 51-46, the U.S. Senate failed to garner enough votes to proceed with the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, with all but three Democrats voting to allow the unborn to be aborted even after the point when they are capable of feeling the pain of the procedure.

CNSNews.com is reporting on the vote which occurred late yesterday afternoon and failed to acquire the 60 votes necessary to end debate on the bill which would have allowed the Senate to take a vote.

Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) was one of the most impassioned supporters of the bill and gave a gripping speech in favor of passage on the Senate floor, describing how babies in the third and fourth trimesters can yawn, make faces, wiggle their ten fingers and ten toes, and feel pain.

Those against the bill, such as Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said abortion was “safer” than having tonsils removed and related a story about a couple who believed they did what was “best for their baby girl” when they aborted her in the third trimester. She referred to the choice as being difficult for Typical of abortion supporters, she spoke only about the “broken-hearted parents” and not about the point of the bill – sparing the unborn from the excruciating pain of being torn apart from limb to limb.

Other pro-abortion senators, such as Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) politicized the issue by saying it was part of the Trump administration’s “health care discrimination” agenda.

Shortly after the bill’s failure in the Senate, President Donald Trump issued a statement expressing his disappointment that it failed in spite of the science which says the unborn can feel pain at 20 weeks.

“The vote by the Senate rejects scientific fact and puts the United States out of the mainstream in the family of nations, in which only 7 out of 198 nations, including China and North Korea, allow elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. We must defend those who cannot defend themselves. I urge the Senate to reconsider its decision and pass legislation that will celebrate, cherish, and protect life.”

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who sponsored the bill, fully intends to keep fighting.

“We didn’t win the vote today, but we won hearts and minds. For more than three hours we debated on the floor of the Senate whether our great nation should end abortion on demand after 20 weeks.

“The arguments made on our behalf by my colleagues – including Senators Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska) – were powerful and compelling. The arguments made against rang hollow,” he said.

“I have not given up this fight and I hope you will not either. Together we must press on and continue pushing for protection of the unborn.”

To follow is a list of all senators who voted against sparing the innocent unborn a painful death.
