Pilgrim Grandma Walks 570 Miles to Pray for Peace

A 94-year-old Italian woman who has spent the last 25 years walking to shrines around the world, just completed a 570-mile walking pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

CNA/EWTN News is reporting on the incredible journeys of Emma Morosini, who is originally from the Lombard town of Castiglione delle Stiviere, just completed her latest walking pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The walk, which began on April 3, lasted 40 days and began in Monterrey, Mexico, which is near the U.S. border, to Mexico City. She arrived at the majestic basilica on the afternoon of May 12 where she prayed before the tilma of St. Juan Diego for families, young people, and world peace.

According to Infoglitz.com, the former nurse travels lightly, carrying only a small suitcase, a Bible and rosaries, an umbrella, a reflective vest to avoid accidents, and a hat to shield her from the sun. Beginning each day around 6:30 a.m., municipal authorities often give her housing at night; otherwise she stays in hotels, hospitals, and churches. Her diet consists of fruit and vegetable donations along with milk, juice, water and bread.

As CNA/EWTN reports, during a 2015 pilgrimage in Argentina, when she was 91-years-old, Morosini told reporters she was praying for “peace in the world, for young people, for all these families that are divided. Many are separated, some live together but aren’t spouses, or they don’t have children. It’s very sad.”

In addition to Mexico and Argentina, she has also made walking pilgrimages to shrines in Brazil, Paraguay, France, Italy, and Spain – all done for the sake of peace in the world.

When she arrived at the Basilica in Mexico City, she was applauded by fellow pilgrims. Before entering the church, she knelt down, kissed the ground, made the sign of the cross and prayed silently for a few moments.

Once inside, she knelt in front of the tilma and was heard whispering four times, “Thank you.”
