The Obama Administration has rewarded one of the nuns who publicly backed ObamaCare by appointing her to the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
The White House has announced that Sr. Marlene Weisenbeck will serve on the Council. A past president of the dissident Leadership Conference of Women Religious, which is currently under investigation by the Vatican, Weisenbeck is also the chair of the Catholic Health Association’s Sponsorship/Canon Law Committee and serves as a consultant in religious law.
Weisenbeck was one of the three dozen Christian “leaders” who signed on to a statement in December 2009 supporting a fake abortion funding compromise offered by Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) which was strenuously opposed by both the U.S. bishops and pro-life groups. She was also one of the signatories on a letter sent by dozens of leaders of religious orders to lawmakers last March asking them to pass the Senate version of the health care bill.
“This is a smart move by President Obama,” writes Thomas Peters of Catholic Vote. “On the one hand, he can claim that Catholics are technically represented on this faith-based council. He can also rest assured that he will never encounter opposition from Sister Marlene, because she has fallen over herself in the past to promote his signature policy initiative.”
Matt K of the Badger Catholic blog responded to the Obama appointment of Weisenbeck.
“Frantic for power and prestige, these sisters lead by Weisenbeck publicly opposed the Catholic Church’s long held teaching that every life is sacred,” he said. “I was told that Weisenbeck was called to Rome after that debacle which it seems has not affected her interest in pursuing her political career. Obviously this appointment tells the real story behind her opposition of pro-life efforts and the USCCB. She scratches Obama’s back and he scratches hers.”
