The lawsuits against physicians who rush minors into transitioning gender continue to pile up. The latest case involves a 21-year-old woman who claims doctors at the University of Nebraska Medical Center rushed her through the process of transitioning to a boy when she was 16-years-old. She has filed suit against the hospital and the doctors for medical malpractice.
According to the Thomas More Society, doctors at the Lincoln, Nebraska hospital performed a double mastectomy on Luka Hein, who was 16 at the time, after only two doctor appointments. This was labelled by these medical professionals as the first step in her “gender affirming care” process.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Hein said she was diagnosed with gender dysophoria by a therapist after a single session and was referred for “top” surgery after her second appointment.
At the time, her parents were in the process of divorcing and she became very withdrawn and spent a lot of time on social media where she began to follow trans influences. In time, she became convinced that she was born the wrong gender.
“I was going through the darkest and most chaotic time in my life, and instead of being given the help I needed, these doctors affirmed that chaos into reality,” she told the Mail. “I don’t think kids can ever consent to having essentially full bodily functions taken away at a young age before they even know what that means. I was talked into medical intervention that I could not fully understand the long-term impacts and consequences of.”
Her parents allowed it after being told by doctors that if they didn’t permit her to transition to a boy, their daughter would kill herself.
Several years later, when she realized what a drastic mistake had been made, Hein returned to the doctors to say she regretted the operation. She was told to seek mental health counseling. In her 28-page complaint, she claims her doctor said, “I guess this is just part of your gender journey” and brushed off her complaints.
Even though she has since detransitioned back to a woman, Hein now has permanent scars from the operation and will never be able to breastfeed. In addition to possibly rendering her infertile, the hormone therapy left her with a deep voice and pain in her joints, lumbar spine, hands, wrists, elbows and pelvic area.
“UNMC doctors manipulated Luka and her parents into believing surgery was the only solution to her complicated mental health, implying that Luka would take her own life if her breasts weren’t removed,” explained Harmeet Dhillon, CEO of the Center for American Liberty. “Under the law, consent to a medical procedure must be both fully informed and freely given. In Luka’s case, it was neither. This unethical manipulation makes Luka’s parents victims of a dishonest process, every bit as much as Luka.”
Charles LiMandri, Partner with LiMandri & Jonna and Special Counsel for the Thomas More Society who is also representing Hein, agrees: “Even the most militant transgender activists who are pushing this radical agenda on children, do not presume to go so far as to rush minors into surgery as their first treatment option. In pursuing this legal action against these reckless defendants, Luka Hein is a courageous young woman who is seeking to help other vulnerable minors avoid suffering a similar terrible fate.”
Hein is seeking damages based on evidence of negligence and lack of informed consent.

This is just one of several lawsuits filed this year by detransitioning people who are suing their doctors for rushing them into procedures when they were still minors.
In February, Chole Cole, 18, sued her medical provider, Kaiser Permanente, for medical malpractice related to her transition. They put her on puberty blockers when she was just 13 years old and performed a double mastectomy at 15.
In April, a woman by the name of Layla Jane also sued her provider at Kaiser Permanente for giving her puberty blockers and testosterone when she was just 12 year old and performing a radical mastectomy at 13.
In June of this year, 18-year-old Kayla Lovdahl filed a law suit against four doctors at Kaiser Permanente for spending just 75 minutes with her before providing her with off-label puberty blockers and powerful male hormone drugs and an eventual mastectomy.
Soren Aldaco, 21, of Texas announced in July of this year that she is suing a medical clinic and its doctors for “gross malpractice” after she was put on puberty blockers at 17 and was pressured into a botched double mastectomy that she says left her “permanently disfigured,” Fox News reports.
We can only hope that these costly lawsuits will knock some sense into the heads of medical providers who are rushing minors down the path of gender transitioning.
