AG writes: “Can you give me some information on starseeds? What are they and is this connected in any way to the New Age?”
The concept of starseeds is definitely a New Age construct. According to their theories, starseeds are advanced spiritual beings from stars, planets, and other universes who allegedly possess spiritual and scientific knowledge that dates back thousands of years.
As this site explains, “Most agree that Starseeds are traveling souls from other planets who incarnated on Earth to inspire and heal human beings and to participate in the planet’s evolution. It’s also possible that these Starseeds are physical descendants of aliens from other worlds, who traveled to Earth to be our planet’s lightworkers.”
The article goes on to say that Starseeds “might also have been birthed through inter-consciousness conception or virgin births, akin to the stories about Jesus” and that any soul can become a starseed when another starseed “infuses the soul with intentional light.” This can occur at any point in their life, even in utero.
Starseeds supposedly have special powers, such as to be able to move through galaxies via meditation, and to communicate in “light language” which they believe is the language of the soul.
How does a person know if they are a starseed? It could be just a sense that they come from another planet, are an “old soul”, or like to fantasize about life in other galaxies.
A person may never know they’re a starseed unless they have an “awakening” which occurs when “an individual with a soul originating from a distant star system becomes aware of their true cosmic nature or has experienced a traumatic life event,” the site explains.
“During this awakening activation process, Starseeds start to remember and reconnect with their past or future lives in other galaxies and planets, sensing a deep connection to the universe. They often experience a heightened sense of intuition, empathic or psychic abilities, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge about the cosmos.”
This awakening then triggers a strong sense of duty to tend to their mission on Earth by using their “unique gifts to bring love, healing, and positive change to humanity and the planet.”
What is the source of this information about starseeds? Channelers and seers who regularly consult what’s known as the Akashic records, which are another New Age/theosophical construct alleging the existence of a kind of database that contains a record of every thought, word, action, idea, that ever occurred in every universe in the past, present, and the future. It stores these records from all life forms and entities, including non-humans.
Needless to say, the whole concept of starseeds is based on whimsy but, according to this article, a recent internet search for the term brought up four million results. Content with the term #starseed had over 1 billion views on Tik Tok!
Why would people believe in such fanciful ideas? As this article, written by three psychologists, they speculate that the reason why New Age beliefs such as these are growing in popularity is due to a distrust of science and doubts about conventional perceptions of reality.
“Certain personality characteristics may also incline some people to believe in the notion of starseeds. For instance, if you are fantasy prone and often confuse imaginary and real events you may see the theory of alien consciousness as profound and desirable.”
In psychological terms, this is known as a source monitoring error, the authors explains, which is a type of unconscious memory error whereby a person gets confused between what’s real and accurate and what’s unreal and imagined.
“It’s commonly seen in schizophrenia and research has found links between schizotypal personality disorder – a common disorder considered to be a mild form of schizophrenia – and belief in conspiracy theories.”
They go on to posit another possible effect that can encourage such beliefs – what is known as ontological confusion.
“This occurs when people cannot discriminate between metaphorical and factual statements such as: ‘Old furniture knows things about the past.’ These may be interpreted more literally than metaphorically and so make it more likely that people then endorse pseudoscientific, transcendental theories.”
If the source of information is perceived to be trustworthy and knowledgable, all the better. “Dubbed the Einstein effect, this is where trusted sources of information are given more credence because of the social credibility they possess.”
In the case of starseeds, several big publishing houses published books on the subject, some of which became best sellers, which only made the concept easier to believe for those who were so inclined.
While it’s true that we don’t yet know if extraterrestrial life exists, even if it does, those who wish to know more about it would be wise not to rely upon sources who regularly channel demonic entities or obtain counsel from alleged databases that inform followers of occult wisdom.
