CB writes: “What is a ‘crystal child’? I have been hearing this name tossed around a lot lately. Is this New Age?”
Yes, it is! A Crystal Child is another fanciful New Age construct along the lines of the Indigo Child, the Rainbow Child, and the Starseed.
According to this article written by Claire Stone, a holistic therapist who is known as the “White Witch of Cheshire” and who refers to herself as an Indigo Child, she describes Crystal Children as being born between the late 1990s to 2020. They “ are believed to be evolved souls who have incarnated many times on this planet. They are the successors to what are known as the ‘Indigo Children’, born in the 1970s and 80s.”
A “Crystal” tends to be more sensitive, caring, perceptive and creative than their peers, and is much more spiritually inclined. These children are supposedly being born all over the world to “ignite the next stage in human evolution,” Stone asserts. She believes in the classic New Age concept of the Age of Aquarius and says these children are here to help us transition from the 2000-year-long Age of Pisces into this new age.
How to tell if your child is a “Crystal?” It’s all in their aura, Stone says. “Sensitives or psychics like myself can read or see this clear crystalline energy around such children.”
The problem with this “sign” is that the aura is nothing more than a naturally occurring glow that surrounds all living things. As this blog explains, it is caused by “black body” electromagnetic radiation which produces an invisible infrared light that is the result of the random movements of all the charged particles in the body that are caused by heat.” In other words, it’s not the least bit mystical. Only in the New Age is this phenomenon associated with a putative energy form known as a life force, chi, qi, etc., which on one, including New Agers, have ever been able to prove exists.
Other “signs”of a Crystal Child are a love for music and long-lasting relationships, sensitivity to “small things”, a calming presence, and a gift for meditation – all of which can pertain to at least a third of the planet.
But there are other, far more fanciful, characteristics. “It is normal for those children to start speaking at an older age (usually around 4) as they have the ability to communicate with their minds. They will display magical abilities that have never been seen before and will make it possible to manipulate energy in new ways. This oftentimes leads to problems with electricity.”
Stone describes Crystals as having “other worldly eyes” and a gaze that can be so penetrating as to be disconcerting at times. “When you have their full attention, it is as though they are seeing into your soul.”
She also claims that these children “know things they shouldn’t”, such as when a letter will arrive in the mail a day before it gets there. The explanation? Because of their past lives, which they frequently remember.
“Because they are reincarnated souls, from the moment they start talking, Crystal children will touch on topics that should be outside of their frame of reference. For example, ‘What color is heaven, Mummy?’ or, as my Leah [the author’s daughter] once asked as a toddler: ‘I want to go back to the house with the red door, Mummy.’”
I fail to see how a question about the color of heaven is indicative of a past life experience. As for the red door, lots of houses have one, mine for instance. Did the family ever visit a house with a red door? Maybe the child wanted to return there.
In short, there’s no such thing as a Crystal Child. This is just another New Age construct which has no support in either the natural or the supernatural realm.
