Energy Vampires: Just Say No!

BB: asks: “What’s an energy vampire? Is this connected to the occult in any way?”

I am happy to report that energy vampires are not connected to the occult; however, that doesn’t make them okay.

An energy vampire is a label given to exceptionally needy people who drain the energy of their friends and/or family members by constantly demanding care and attention.

As this article states, relationships with energy vampires tend to be so toxic you will often be left physically and emotionally drained after being in contact with them.

Energy vampires tend to come in one of several different varieties – all of which are equally unpleasant.

First, the “victim” is always ready with a sob story about how everyone is against them and tend to complain often and loudly about these slights.

Next, the “criticizer” spends a lot of time criticizing others while the” blamer” is always quick to blame someone other than themselves.

Then there’s the “manipulator” who is always uncannily prepared to manipulate any situation to their advantage. The “dramatizer” thrives on drama and always seems to be in the grips of a crisis, and the “negative thinker” never seems to be hopeful about anything.

Other behaviors typical of the energy vampire is the demand that you always be available on their terms. They have a tendency to use guilt to get you to do what they want, and always expect you to take responsibility for them.

As this article states, “There are plenty of reasons why people develop energy-draining behaviors, such as mental health conditions, certain attachment types, and past trauma. Some people — including empaths — are more susceptible to being emotionally drained than others.”

It concludes: “Once you’ve identified an energy vampire in your life, you can develop ways to protect yourself and your energy, such as setting boundaries and getting comfortable with saying no.

And don’t forget to keep them in prayer!
