GG asks: “I have heard that the Barre3 workout incorporates yoga. Is this true?”
Yes! In fact, the founder of Barre3, Sadie Lincoln, refers to it as “sneaky yoga” because of the way she “infused” her ballet classes with pilates and “the wisdom of yoga.”
Here’s how she explained it to Yoga Journal:
“I started a regular yoga practice when I was pregnant with my daughter about 11 years ago. I instantly connected with the wisdom of yoga and the power of working the body in a slow, mindful way. This slowing down versus the intense cardio sessions I was used to was a game changer for me. I started to shift my idea of what success meant in a workout. Success became being centered and learning about my body versus burning X calories to lose weight.”
She went on to complete a 200-hour teacher training course at YogaWorks, then created her own blend of ballet, pilates and yoga which focuses on teaching people “to be balanced in body and empowered from within,” her website states.
Since launching in 2008 in Portland, Oregon, Barre3 has grown to include 200 franchise studios plus an online workout platform with subscribers from more than 100 countries.
Her workouts include yoga poses such as the boat, warrior, half-moon and mountain pose while using a barre or pilates resistance band.
Because Lincoln herself claims the inclusion of yoga is “not just exercise” but is intended to be a way of connecting with the wisdom of yoga, Barre3 is not recommended for Christians.
