Pope Benedict XVI’s eldest brother, Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, has written a book about his famous brother which will debut on September 12, the eve of the Pope’s visit to Germany.
The Vatican Press Office is reporting that the book, entitled Mein Bruder, der Papst (My Brother the Pope) was written in collaboration with German journalist Michael Hesemann.
The 256-page volume, which contains 40 photographs, is filled with Georg’s memories of the Pope going back to their childhood. He also narrates the flowering of the Pope’s vocation as well as his many years of service to the Church before he was elected to the Papacy.
The culminating moment of the narrative is the sixtieth anniversary of the priestly ordination of Georg and Joseph Ratzinger, who were ordained together in Freising on 29 June 1951. The two celebrated the anniversary of their ordination together in St. Peter’s Basilica this year.
The book has been published by the German publishing house Herbig and will go on sale in bookshops on September 12, just before the Pope’s scheduled visit to Germany which will take place September 22-25.
