New life

December 3

“To be a field for the word means to be earth which allows itself to be absorbed by the seed, which assimilates itself to the seed, renouncing itself so as to make the seed germinate. With her motherhood Mary transfused into it her very substance, body and soul, so that a new life might come forth…Mary makes herself completely available as the soil, she allows herself to be used and consumed so as to be transformed into him.

-Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) on Mary’s motherhood

I ask only for peace

December 24
“O Jesus, I ask only for peace — peace and, above all, love that is without measure or limits.”
– St. Therese of Lisieux
Today’s Reflection:
This reflection from St. Therese reminds us that “perfect love casts out fear.” Our Lady was the perfect example of perfect love. Ask her to show you where you need to love more. Who do you need to forgive so that you might experience fully the peace of Christ on Christmas day?

Obtain that every human being of every race and culture may encounter and accept Jesus, who came down to earth in the mystery of Christmas to give ‘His’ peace to us.
O Mary, Queen of Peace, give us Christ, the world’s true Peace!”
– St. John Paul II

Her vow of surrender

December 22
“Thanks to her vow of surrender, everything is divinely disposed for this direct hold of God’s word over her.”
-Father Marie-Dominique Philippe, O.P.
Today’s Reflection:
Though Mary received a singular grace from God never to be repeated for all eternity, could it be that your surrender, seeking to mirror her own as closely as possible, could divinely dispose you to a greater hold of God’s word over you? How would you most like to experience that hold? In what one way today can you cooperate with grace to make your surrender more like Our Lady’s?

Filled with Joy

December 21
“One filled with Joy preaches without preaching.”
-St. Teresa of Calcutta
Today’s Reflection:
What is the underlying meaning of this quote? Do you believe that you are truly filled with joy based on your interactions and encounters with others? Do you “preach without preaching”? Today, ask our Lord to open your heart to a greater outpouring of joy, and await His lovely gift.

Today’s Reflection:
