The Vatican has issued a statement categorically condemning what it calls “unspeakable criminal acts” by the Islamic State terrorists in Syria and Iraq, saying that “no cause, and certainly no religion, can justify such barbarity.”

In another attempt to nominate a suitable Ambassador to the Holy See after several of his choices have been turned down, President Barack Obama has named a 45 year old Liberation theologian to become the United State’s Ambassador to the Holy See.
Holy See Says Economic Crisis Will Compromise Human Rights

The Holy See’s permanent observer to the United Nations is warning about the dramatic social consequences of the global recession which could cause a rise in power of governments with a “dubious commitment to democracy” and push an additional 53 million people below the threshold of living on less than $2 a day.
